Argentina Launches Landmark Citizenship by Investment Program

Argentina is set to introduce its first citizenship-by-investment (CBI) program, offering a direct path to citizenship for individuals who invest a minimum of 500,000 USD in key economic sectors such as technology, energy, agrobusiness and tourism. The new scheme is designed to attract high-impact, productive investment. It marks a significant policy shift, aligning with President Javier Milei’s pro-business, market economy agenda and positioning Argentina as an emerging contender in the global investment migration landscape.

The CBI program is being launched alongside sweeping immigration reforms. These include restrictions on public healthcare for non-citizens, tighter residency requirements and enhanced entry screening for foreigners lacking financial means. Thus, the government is explicitly welcoming high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) and this approach reflects broader policy reforms: controlling unregulated migration while incentivizing capital inflows to support national economic recovery.

Although the Argentine passport offers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 160 countries and the country provides a high quality of life at relatively low cost, the investment opportunity comes with notable challenges. These include complex bureaucracy, high tax exposure for residents and ongoing economic volatility.

Nevertheless, for international investors able to structure their affairs effectively, Argentina’s CBI program presents a unique and potentially advantageous entry point into Latin America, combining regional influence with long-term global mobility benefits.
